Cassel-Mesrine, the epilogue

Mesrine continuation and conclusion. A month after the death instinct, "the first part of the saga of Jacques Mesrine directed by Jean-François Richet," the Public Enemy No. 1 "out today on nearly 500 screens. Marked by the performance of Vincent Cassel, who embodies the famous crook until his violent death on 2 November 1979, this second film will try to do as well as the previous one, which has already attracted nearly 2 million viewers in France .
The actor has received on the eve of the second verdict.

With nearly 2 million entries for the first movie, are you more relaxed at the exit of "Public Enemy No. 1?

Vincent Cassel. It is too early to take stock. Indeed, the first phase works well, but for me the war continues! It is still waiting. The success of "Death Instinct" is reassuring. Since the first projections, I feel a real interest for the popular character. Before, I was sure of nothing.

"The Caesars, I've never thought of it!"

Of the two films, which do you prefer?

In fact, 2, since it is more crazy, less conventional construction. This is when we talk about the excessiveness of the character and also that of my physical transformation. The specification was that the two films are different and can interest people who know nothing about Mesrine.
I have seen spectators in the province, who were just happy to have seen a good movie.

These twenty pounds and more, it was difficult to bear for months?

What was hard was not the reperdre (laughs). I felt my body wanted to lose weight, and I had to force myself to eat. I have repeatedly vomiting upon awakening.

Are you've had trouble out of character?

I had everything prepared. Like all gangsters who are doing and who stand in South America (laughs)! I left six months in Brazil to surf, rest, and also running another film (Editor's note: "A Deriva", produced by Fernando Meirelles).
It is said that the role of Mesrine you probably will be worth an appointment César ...
The Caesars, I've never thought of it! It may be cultural: my father never was. Suddenly, I have never given any importance to this league. And I'm always surprised when I see that I admire injured players not to be rewarded.

The poster of "Public Enemy" struck some people ...

The poster, I love it. It is virtually the plane of the film. Apart from being beautiful, it sums up the matter. It shows a dead man who entered the legend when he was shot. The side Christ is present, it is true. But the posters are those who walk that run on archetypes.

Is this the greatest experience of your career?
I can not say that. Whether the "Hate", "Irreversible", "Blueberry", all films shot me that I scored. The duration of filming nine months is unique, however. I do not know if it m'arrivera again.
Will you turn the film on the life of Yves Montand?
At the base, I too am not leaving. But I like the subject proposed by the producer Jean-Louis Livi, I read the script. Until then, I co-produce and play in the first feature film by Romain Gavras (Note: the son of Costa-Gavras), which had made the famous clip of the group Justice.
And the project of "Dangerous Liaisons" in theater, directed by John Malkovich?
Nothing is done yet. I am very attracted by this adventure because it's the years that I've played in the theater, but I still have a problem of timing. Anyway, in my career, I do what I can not refuse.
