Leaders of France TV programs opposed to reducing taxes

The leaders of different units of public programs of the group France Televisions are "extremely worried" Thursday of the amendment adopted by the UMP MPs in committee, which reduces taxes to compensate for the elimination of advertising.

Gathered in a Society of programs of France Televisions (SRPFT), they believe that this amendment 'weakens' public television.

By refusing to give France Televisions funding promised MPs UMP members of the "threatening its existence in its reaching the heart: the manufacture of its broadcasts," said the SRPFT.

According to the Corporation, the programs are "the first affected" because "the commitments that bind France Televisions and production professionals are mechanically reduced." "The works of creation (fiction, documentary, animation) are threatened," added the SRPFT.

In conclusion, program managers denounced an amendment "that threatens the quality of programs and condemns public television."

UMP members decided Wednesday in committee to lower by half until 2012, through an amendment, the tax on advertising revenues of private TV channels (TF1, M6 and Canal +), set at 3% Bill on public broadcasting.

This resource tax would be used to offset revenue losses of public advertising.
