France Televisions could lose its last asset. From January 2009, the elimination of advertising on the antennas of France 2 and France 3 will start the evening at 20h35. This poses a problem for competing channels TF1 and M6 since 20h35 is the hour of strategic crossroads for tunnels advertising. To remedy this problem, the UMP member Yanick PATERNOTTE propose an amendment during the discussion of the audiovisual law to the National Assembly from 25 November. The amendment states that "niches vacated by advertising on public channels will be dedicated to the dissemination of spots for themes: health education and social sustainable development, civics and citizenship and the European Union" . And if it is not clear, the explanatory memorandum to the amendment drives the nail these spots are intended to be broadcast between 20h30 and 21h. Programs on civic or social education, are certainly needed to strengthen "the concept of citizenship" but they would also be conducive to flee the vast majority of viewers of France 2 and France 3 even before the early evening programs.
